Linocut of a Japanese lantern

On my recent trip to Japan, I fell under the spell of an ancient Japanese lantern, discreetly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of tourism. Marked by the test of time, its simplicity was enhanced by delicate motifs, revealing an irresistible beauty. This encounter inspired me to create a linocut, a way for me to capture this precious moment and pay tribute to it.

Hand-printed on mulberry paper, this work is more than an image; it’s a piece of my journey, a reminder of the beauty and serenity embodied by this lantern. It represents my admiration for a culture that, through a simple object, teaches the beauty of simplicity and the richness of detail.
