The
original linocut
presented here depicts the stone Torii at the entrance to the Asakusa Shrine, created using Prussian blue ink. This monument was one of the first I had the chance to discover during my first trip to Japan more than 10 years ago. Located in the lively district of Asakusa, this shrine is a must for tourists visiting the archipelago. I was particularly impressed by the imposing concrete structure of this Torii, as well as by the Shimenawa, braided ropes, and the Shide, folded strips of Japanese paper, that adorn it. The contrast with the surrounding trees also caught my eye and inspired this linocut full of memories.
