A linocut inspired by our travels in the land of the rising sun, where night falls quickly. We love strolling through the deserted alleyways in the evening to capture the unique atmosphere of these places. From sunset to nightfall, storefronts light up and alleyways are transformed.
In this engraving, the only point of light is the lantern of a small restaurant. It subtly illuminates the decor, revealing objects and shapes, creating the mysterious atmosphere of traditional Japanese neighborhoods. It’s an atmosphere I’m very fond of, and one I wanted to capture in this linocut. The idea was to suggest the setting with a few rare touches of light.
