Sacred stroll” Japanese linocut of a torii in Miyajima forest

This is a hand-crafted linocut of a Torii in the middle of a forest on the island of Miyajima in Japan. Although the island of Miyajima is very popular with tourists for its famous Itsukushima Jinja Torii, there are also plenty of forest walks to take you on a different tour of the island. On these quiet, uncrowded strolls, where only the sound of birds and the wind in the trees can be heard, you’ll often come across moss-filled statues, jizô and other small shrines. You may also be lucky enough to encounter this magnificent and imposing Torii standing in your path. I still vividly remember the special atmosphere of the place. A soothing scene, bathed in the light streaming through the trees. A souvenir I wanted to engrave to add to my collection of Japanese linocuts.

This limited edition print is entirely handmade on wenzhou paper in A3 format.
