Linocut of a maiko’s smile blue

This portrait of a Maiko in kimono was drawn and engraved on a linoleum plate in Prussian blue. I then apply a thin film of Prussian blue ink on this support with a roller and transfer the image on a sheet of paper by applying pressure with a traditional Japanese baren.

The entire process of creating our Japanese Prussian blue art prints takes place in our workshop, from sketching to engraving and inking to creating the handmade paper. The result is a unique Japanese-inspired wall decoration.

The number of prints in Prussian blue is limited to 100.
Each print in Prussian blue is signed and numbered.
Each linocut in Prussian blue is accompanied on the back by its certificate of authenticity.
Note that the “handmade paper” option uses paper made in our workshop as we saw above.

Handmade paper made in our workshop

These emblematic figures of Japanese culture have always held an irresistible fascination for me, and so was born the desire to create a series of linocuts inspired by these unforgettable icons. By immersing myself in the fascinating world of Maikos and Geishas, I sought to capture their essence, their mysterious beauty and timeless elegance, while trying to convey this magic through my works.

Thus, each linocut represents a step in this artistic and cultural exploration, seeking to express the essence of these emblematic Japanese figures, while trying to convey to others the beauty and emotion I myself felt when discovering them. For beyond their outward appearance, Maikos and Geishas are bearers of a millennia-old history and culture, which deserve to be celebrated and shared with the world.
