A group workshop to learn the basics of linocut printing
We were lucky enough to meet Adeline Klam, a designer with a passion for Japanese paper and its delicate world. Captivated by her love of washi and Japanese-inspired patterns, we are delighted to be collaborating with her once again for this second edition of our workshops in Paris. In this workshop, you will discover all the steps involved in creating your own Japanese linocut: carving, inking and printing your Japanese-inspired designs.
In this workshop, you’ll discover all the steps involved in creating a Japanese-style linocut. We’ll be carving, inking and printing! In this workshop, I’ll be guiding you through carving Japanese-inspired designs. You’ll learn how to transfer the illustration onto the plate, carve it by hand using gouges, and then print it using a Japanese baren. If you’d like a personalised design, that’s possible, but we’ll need to discuss the design you’d like to create beforehand.
After this enjoyable creative session, you’ll leave with your engraved linoleum plate, the print you’ve made on Japanese mulberry paper, and a summary sheet listing the tools and materials needed to get started with linocut printing. Two formats are available, depending on your preferences and skill level: a 4-hour workshop to discover the basics of linocut and get started with this technique, or a 7-hour workshop to deepen your practice and hone your skills.
