Japanese Ko-omote mask linocut

50,00€

Size 18 x 24 cm

Description

After creating the Hannya mask print, I wanted to continue my exploration of traditional Japanese masks with an equally fascinating figure: Ko-omote. This mask, which also originates from Noh theatre, depicts the face of a young woman of ideal beauty, youthful and full of grace.

What makes Ko-omote so captivating is the sheer subtlety of his expression. Depending on the tilt of his head and the light, he appears by turns sad, smiling, melancholic or serene. He perfectly embodies the complexity of human emotions and the fragility of youth through his enigmatic face. For this linocut, I sought to capture this delicate tenderness whilst maintaining a strong emphasis on contrasts, so that the facial features and the curves of the mask stand out subtly from the shadows.

Each linocut comes with its own certificate of authenticity, attesting to its origin and the fact that it has been handcrafted.

Entirely hand-engraved and hand-printed, each print is produced on high-quality paper, with great care taken at every stage of the process.

The linocut technique means that each print is slightly different: subtle variations, minor irregularities or a few areas where the ink has not been fully transferred may appear. These are the marks of the artisan’s hand, which give each print its charm and unique character.

Limited edition of 100 copies.
