Description

Discover this handcrafted Japanese linocut dedicated to kendô (剣道, the way of the sword), one of Japan’s most emblematic martial arts. Engraved and hand-printed in my studio, this Japanese print highlights the posture, traditional armor and elegance of combat.

This hand-crafted linocut pays tribute to this universe, capturing the power of the postures, the elegance of the armor and the solemnity of the practice. Inspired by the black-and-white images of ancient Japan, it evokes both the ceremonial and the inner strength of kendô.

Ever since I was a child, Michel Random’s book Les Arts Martiaux ou l’Esprit des Budô has had a profound effect on me: his photographs of hakama, kamon and ancient temples have nourished my imagination. With this print, I aim to pass on this visual and spiritual heritage. Produced as a limited edition, this original work is printed in black or blue on Japanese mulberry paper.
