Description
In this japanese linocut entitled “ Facing the warrior“, I wanted to pay tribute to the imposing aura of the samurai of yesteryear. Inspired by the martial arts books I grew up with, I chose to depict a tall warrior from the front, clad in his detailed armor, with an intense play of light accentuating the relief. Samurai represent a fascinating duality: both protective and fearsome, they embody a balance between discipline and power. This print focuses on their armor, a symbol of strength and elegance, using powerful contrasts to emphasize details and textures. The mysterious, intimidating aspect of this warrior is amplified by the frontal position. Hand-printed on Japanese mulberry paper, this linocut perpetuates the artisanal tradition of Japanese prints. Each print is unique, signed and numbered, reflecting my commitment to authentic, high-quality production. This work is the first part of a triptych exploring the aesthetics of samurai armor. The other two pieces focus on iconic helmets, depicted from different angles and expressions to complete this series. Together, they capture the essence of the warriors of yesteryear, between fascination and awe.
